Brockton is about to experience a major revitalization inspired by
the creation of an Arts & Entertainment District located just
20 minutes south of Boston.
Anchored
on Frederick Douglass Avenue around an Underground Railroad route
to freedom and the Liberty Tree Historic Site, Brockton's ON THE
AVENUE project is an extension of the Main Street Business District.
The area will celebrate African-American history and document the
region's contributions to America's legacy, while offering an entertaining
place for New Englanders to frequent and travelers to visit.
The ON THE
AVENUE project's historically themed streetscape will recreate the
atmosphere of 1920s New York and the Harlem Renaissance, when artists
and intellects enjoyed an explosion of culture and creativity. The
new district will capture the flavor of famous nightspots, like
the Cotton Club and Small's Paradise, while guides dressed in period
attire will lead visitors through the many attractions centered
around this unique experience.
