What is the 'On the Avenue' Experience?

'On the Avenue' is a new concept in quality art, culture & entertainment designed for the upscale and progressive consumer. Located in Brockton's new Arts & Entertainment District, adjacent to the Historic Liberty Tree Heritage Park, this exciting and unique destination offers a range of food, hospitality and entertainment choices to satisfy every preference.

From the Harlem Renaissance-styled streetscape to the boutique Hotel Grayson, there is an ambiance that will attract partygoers, tourists, conventioneers, jazz aficionados, artists, and discerning consumers who want to have a good time.

'On the Avenue' means fun and fantasy rolled into an enchanting and constant entertainment experience of consistently high quality activities. One restaurant will feature a seafood & creole cuisine while the other will offer down home bar-be-que with all the fixins'. High end art and affordable one-of-a-kind hand made gift ideas will make shopping an adventure. There will be 'hard core' jazz for the purists, smooth jazz and R&B for dancing, spoken word and African griot storytelling for children. And, the comedy club will let everybody get their laugh on!

Where is it?
The Experience is located in downtown Brockton where we have transformed a two block area into a special place, a crossroad where cultures meet, where art is shared, and where quality entertainment and services are paramount. Located on historic Frederick Douglass Avenue, the venue offers a full-service boutique hotel, a casual fine dining restaurant, a coffeehouse, bookstore, day spa, jazz & comedy clubs, gift shops, ethnic apparel and specialty stores, art galleries, a performance theater and a history museum.

Why Brockton?
The answer is simple. Brockton is equidistant from Boston, the Cape, New Bedford and Providence. A short 20 minute drive from Boston, Brockton offers convenience to the neighboring communities along Rt. 128. It is much more convenient, and economical, to travel to downtown Brockton than to downtown Boston from Milton, Randolph, Avon, Quincy, Bridgewater, Stoughton, Newton, Needham, Wellesley, Natick, and Framingham. With plenty of off-street parking, Brockton's 'On the Avenue' destination is a logical and convenient place for shopping, eating and late night entertainment.

Additionally, the cost of food and entertainment, and parking in Boston is much higher. When one considers convenience, safety and costs, a quality entertainment venue in Brockton just makes more sense. And, with few 1st class entertainment venues between Boston and Providence, Brockton is a natural choice for discriminating and value-conscious consumers. For Boston residents, Brockton's commuter rail station serving Boston's South Station is just a five minute walk from 'the Avenue.'

Our location just south of Boston allows for our identity as a regional heritage tourism destination and allows tourists and business visitors to experience the rich history and culture of Brockton and Plymouth County.

What's so special about it? Why should my friends and I visit?
We have planed a very special gathering place for very special people. The entire street will resonate with the sights and sounds of the Harlem Renaissance period in 1920s New York. We also have designed a more reflective ambiance for the culturally aware visitor. While you may hear the music of Fats Waller on the Avenue or burst out with laughter at the antics of the comics at the Comedy Club, there may well be a lively literary discussion going on at the coffeehouse or at the library in the hotel.

'On the Avenue' is a themed entertainment and 'edutainment' concept designed to elicit a mix of activities, emotions and thought-provoking programs. Because we desire to encourage cross-cultural sharing and tolerance the hotel will feature African American literary and theater heroes. For example, each room and suite will by named after a prominent author or actor, and their picture, biography and sample of their work will be displayed. Also, the public areas will feature art and culture from around the world. These amenities are designed to promote and brand the hotel and 'On the Avenue' as a distinctive and sophisticated, socially progressive, avant-garde and rewarding shopping, cultural and entertainment venue with "something for everyone" and a place where "everyone knows your name."

The result will be an explosion of cultures and communities all sharing in a common vision and goal; fun and fantasy, and quality services at reasonable prices for like-minded and value-conscious consumers.
